Two of PH Navy's biggest vessels deployed in Mindanao to intensify maritime security

Following President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of martial law, two naval vessels are now in Davao City to intensify maritime security in Mindanao.

Philippine navy vessels BRP Gregorio Del Pilar and its newest asset BRP Davao Del Sur docked earlier at the Sasa Wharf, in Davao city.

BGen Gilbert Gapay, deputy commander of AFP, says the move is part of the ongoing hot pursuit operation of the military in maintaining the security in the city in line with the martial law declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

He further stated that the terror groups Abu Sayaff and Maute group have been using the seas as their maneuver space that is why our newest naval assets will be a big help in really having effective sea control and naval presence dominance in our seas.

The Philippine Navy continues to conduct maritime patrols in coastal areas to ensure the security in the area.

NFEM spokesperson Lt. James Reyes says that they are also augmenting their personnel and security forces with the coordination with their counterparts the PNP and Eastern Mindanao Command.

In line with this, the AFP deputy commander assures that there will be no abuse of power in the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.

“It is really intended to address this internal conflicts and it is nothing any intended to intake liberties, civil liberties and basic human rights.” Said Bgen Gilbert Gapay

The AFP has also deployed a battalion from the 4^th and 10^th infantry division in case there is a need for an augmentation in the Marawi operation.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Navy will hold in Davao City for the first time its 119^th anniversary for the commissioning of the BRP Davao Del Sur on May 31. President Duterte is expected to attend in the said event.
